It is a very pretentious book, but contains nothing that is new. And his air of profundity and superior wisdom are most irritating. I was sorry that I did not ask you to send me another proof of my paper on <span class="ED-name">Kant</span> in America. There were several misprints. I have written out the review of <span class="ED-name">Ladd</span> as carefully as possible, and do not think that the <span class="ED-text-lem" itemref="app-philological-3" title="printer’s ] so wörtlich&#xD;&#xA;">printer’s</span><a class="ED-anchor" href="#app-philological-3" id="app-philological-3-ref" title="printer’s ] so wörtlich">[c]</a> will find any difficulty in reading it.</p><p class="ED-p">The notice of <span class="ED-name">Major</span>’s thesis I copied from the preface. As he worked under my direction in preparing the work, it would not be right for me to review it. It would be very agreeable to me if you or some other German scholars would criticise it. I should be glad to get your opinion of the work done here at <span class="ED-pb">|</span> Cornell for the Doctor’s degree. I am sensible of the faults of <span class="ED-name">Major</span>’s work and I hope next year to send you some better samples of our student’s work. But it is perhaps up to the average, as theses go, &amp; I should be glad if you thought it worth noticing further in the <u>Kant-Studien</u>.
