    Dear Prof. Vaihinger;

    Your favor[1] was duly received &[a] should have had its answer before this. Your request of reporting the study of Kant in Japan would be gladly responded, if not for the opportunity of introducing my friend Dr. Onishi[2] to you[b]. I gave him a letter introducing him to you & he will tell you all about the present condition of the Kantian study in Japan. He is a graduate of the university & well informed of philosophical tendencies in Japan & I hope You will write of Kant in Japan, when You hear about it from Dr. Onishi[3], what is better than I can write about it.     2↑Onishi ] meint vermutlich Onishi Hajime (1864–1900), Pseudonym: Sōzan; Philosoph, Studium in Tokio bis 1888 oder 1889, Dozent am Tōkyō Semmon Gakkō, Studienaufenthalt in Deutschland 1898 (WBIS).
    3↑I hope … Dr. Onishi ]  eine Mitteilung in Heft 2 der Kant-Studien drückt noch die Hoffnung aus, Näheres über diese japanische Kantbewegung […] in nicht allzu ferner Zeit durch unseren (schon Bd. I, 492 erwähnten) Spezialreferenten, Professor Dr. R. Nakashima […] zu erfahren (vgl. Mitteilungen. Kant in Japan. In: Kant-Studien 2 ([1897]/1898), S. 493). Im in Frage stehenden Zeitraum wurde in der Zeitschrift Kant-Studien kein weiterer Bericht über Kant in Japan veröffentlicht.
